Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Stunning views on a great track
We had a 10 am tee off that started right on time and played the round with out any delays. Course is in great shape, greens are fast and tricky to read but land soft for your approach. Cart girl came by 6 times through the round to help our hydration needs. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Great course, amazing value...
Great course, amazing value... We all really loved it for the course quality, personnel and great price.
Fairways and rough in great shape
Nice desert course that was straight forward. Fairways and rough in very good shape. Greens did not look as good, but putted fine.Played in under 4 hours at prime time.
course is great
starter was not at the 1st hole on the Sun course - the guys I was supposed to play with did not turn up -The starter finally came and said that I will have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for the next group to fit me in - finally he found me aplace to play with 2 other people on the Wolf course
somehow this course was jammed packed - we were waiting at every hole - the round lasted 51/2 hours approx - the delays took the game to a disinterested level
Amazing golf course. Pristine fairways and greens
The course was great it was immaculate with great smooth fairways and great greens. It was not overseeded. Staff was very friendly. Price was great
Consistently well maintained
I have played the Paiute courses for several years and their level of quality and service has always been at the highest level. The courses are challenging yet fair and often interestingly designed. Should be included on any golf outing in Las Vegas.10/3/
Great Course
The course is in excellent condition. The greens were a lttle pitted with old ball marks, but that is the only complaint. There were very few people there and my round took less than four hours. Good value.
great course and wonderful staff
First time in Vegas and wanted to play a desert course. A coworker told me about this place. The conditions were really good and the staff were very helpful. If I lived near here I would play it more often.
Worth the ride!!!
Drove in from Henderson, NV to golf. The course is not around the corner from where we reside, but it's worth the trip. The course, club house & Staff were fabulous. Spent a lot of time taking in the beauty of the course and recording it with photographs.
Great complex of 54 holes, great deals on GolfNow!
I had played the Wolf course, but found a special "Buy it Now" twilight rate for $30 for the Sun course and couldn't pass it up. Found another 15% internet coupon and you're at $27 for a great course! Due to the tight-ish fairway and desert surroundings, play can be a little slow due to excessive ball searching, but overall the pace of play could be improved - otherwise a great experience! Thank you Paiute and GolfNow!
Highly Recommend!
We played both the Sun and the Wolf on 10/13/2012 and 10/14/2012. The grass is incredibly lush... we are talking pro conditions. A perfect lie every time. The course layouts are both excellent. The signature hole on the Wolf course is awesome... it's an island green like Sawgrass! These courses are among the very best you will find in Vegas. Highly recommend!
Beautiful desert course located miles from the nearest house. It is just golf , then desert!
We played 4 different courses in Las Vegas and this was definitely the best designed and best conditioned course we played. The price was extremely reasonable. The food and beverage were great as well.
Only drawback is that it is located a long way from the Strip. Next visit, I may stay at a resort closer to this property and try to play the other courses at this resort as well.
This is a must-play if you are Las Vegas.
Excellent course
Great course.....a little bit of a drive from the strip, but worth it in our opinion. We will definately be back.
Good Time
Found Sun Mountain much nicer the Snow Mountain. Holes do not look the same. Not a lot of water on this course. Wind is the only defense for these courses. Great condition other then ball marks not repaired on greens. Pace of play was great and staff friendly. Nice get away from strip area. Snow and Sun would not be my first pick to play but they are very nice and I would play them again.
All the Paiute courses are great!
I've played both the Sun and Snow courses. Will be playing the Wolf shortly by year's end. I'm afraid I'm too novice a golfer to really go into any nuances of either of the courses, or compare them. Conditions were pristine, however. Practice facility is off real grass, which is always a big plus in my mind. I was solo for the first 9, and played with nobody ahead of me (remember this was early Sept -- very hot day), and I eventually caught up with a 3-some which I joined for the back 9. Staff friendly & all from the pro shop to the starter to the bar.
