Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Great track
Well worth the Uber from the strip. Spectacular scenery and a reasonable replay rate
Great Course!
It's long, but set in the middle of the desert making it literally like an oasis. It's a beautiful, well taken care of course. A bit windy, but it was a great challenge. I'll play here again soon!
Vacation golf at its best
We come out to this facility every time we're in town, and have never been disappointed. We are always greeted as if we play there every day. The course is in beautiful shape- we played The Sun course. The greens were fast but held the ball. There were only 2 of us and a foursome in front of us. Several times throughout the round, the marshals came around to check and make sure the pace of play was adequate for us, and even offered to move us through if needed.
There were plenty of water stations, but we also had cart services throughout our time.
The practice areas were fully stocked with ample hitting areas.
Overall, between the great courses and friendly staff, we will continue to play this course whenever we're in town.
Amazing value on a re-round
Played the Sun course after playing Wolf course on a re-round. Rate was amazing for such a fun course. Not as tough as Wolf, conditions were just as nice, and the layout was similar. Wind never stopped, but didn't dampen the experience. Fun, fun coarse, great shape, great value.
Played the Snow Mountain course
Great course. Played the Snow Mountain course and it was in immaculate condition.
Beautiful course
Great course with some very fun holes. Fairways where like hitting off carpet. Very fun for a midrange- high handicapper due to the course being open as long as you stay in grass you won't get a bad lie.
Beautiful layout.
The layout of this course is awesome. The fairways are generous and the bunkering is great. I would absolutely play here again!
Tough course in windy conditions
Excellent resort golf, tough greens in the wind but rolls true
Coldest day of the Year and still worth it
This course is like playing on carpet. The fairways are awesome and the green are fast and challenging. I played Wolf last year and the Sun course is just as good. Cant wait to play Snow next. I love the complex. Views are amazing too .
New Year's Day golf
We had a great day, great buffet breakfast, friendly staff, challenging course with beautiful views, we'll be back very soon.
Beautiful course
This might be the most beautiful course I've ever played. In the middle of the desert. Mountains in every direction. Amazing. The course conditions were perfect. Plush fairways. Perfect greens. All for under $50. WOW!!! Time it right and you can play one of the best courses on the planet for relatively cheap.
Great course
Great overall course. I probably wouldn't play this course in the near future because there are so many other Vegas area courses that I want to try, but it was definitely one of the nicer courses I have played. You wont be disappointed by this place but you also wont be blown away. It's a nice course but didn't really give me a WOW factor on any hole.
Great
Paiute has 3 courses, this was my first time playing the Sun course. It was great and very challenging, pretty narrow fairways and great par 3's. I can't wait to go back soon and play their Snow course. Paiute never disappoints. Recently I played the Wolf course with my dad and it was phenomenal. I love what this resort has to offer.
Great Course
Really beautiful course in perfect condition (for mid-Dec). Staff from check-in, bag drop-off and starter were great and didn't care we were Golf Now customers. Marshall came around a couple of times, talked and joked with us. Pace of play good at under 3.5 hours. Course playable for all skill levels.
Gorgeous Course
Impecubly maintained and challenging. Well worth it compared to some very crazy prices a bit closer to Las Vegas. Good Golf Now discounts. Was freezing and windy when i was here, mid Dec. in spite it is as food as it gets
