Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Scenic views with exciting and challenging holes
A very challenging and enjoyable course to play. Great view of mountains.
Paiute is the gem of Las Vegas
After attending the PGA event this weekend at TPC Summerlin and seeing the course quality there we went out for a round at Paiute Sun today. The wind was forecast down today so seemed like a perfect day as it can get quite windy out there. After an easy 20 minute drive we were greated by the very friendly bag staff and pro shop. The course conditions as usual are immaculate and every bit as fine as what the pros were getting at TPC. The course was full but pace of play moveed right along. Fairways were pristine, Greens were a bit slow, sand immaculate, range conditions hitting off grass were perfect. Concession staff very nice and lunch afterwards was great. We played Sun Mountain which was a perfect test presenting lots of risk/reward for we mid handicappers so was a really fun day. Thanks Paiute!
Sun Mountain glows
This was our third round at Paiute in 4 days and Sun Mountain was the favorite of the 3 course for my wife. Course was in wonderful shape, greens were in good shape and rolled true. All 3 course are wonderful to play, great option to get away from the strip and costs were very good considering the "bounce back" discount they provided.
See you in 2017!
Fantastic hot deal and a wonderful course
I played as a single but was paired with another guy. The course is fabulously beautiful and in great condition. I found a lot of bunkers off the tee but that's what they're there for! The greens were not super quick but were very true. I played the Wolf 2 years ago and was slightly disappointed that that was not available this time. However I was equally thrilled with Sun Mountain. So much so that I'm playing the Snow Mountain course tomorrow to complete my set!
Great Track
Played on a Thursday afternoon. Scheduled for 1:14, as a solo playing with another pair, but they allowed me to join another solo at 1:06. They allowed each of us to have our own cart. Played in 2hr45minutes!! No one in front of us the whole time.
This was my second round of the week at Paiute, played Wolf on Tuesday. Conditions at both were excellent. Fairways were perfect and greens were nice. A bit hard to read putts playing it the first time and I wish they were faster.
Layout was challenging with a fair amount of dog legs and strategically placed fairway bunkers in the 225-275 yard range off the tee. I wish there were more dog legs that were draw friendly. Seemed like I spent most of the day trying to hit a cut.
Highly recommend. I would play again if the opportunity arise.
Rival in Las Vegas?
May be, Coyote Springs a rival of Paiute but
friendly staffs and distance from Las Vegas, Paiute is the winner.
Impeccabel fairway and green. Esp. Sun Mt. green is the best.
Except for Wolf course, Snow and Sun are beautiful but I prefer Sun because it's layout is more good to enjoy golf.
Go and play and then you can realize what I am saying.
Classic desert golf and outstanding conditioning.
Enjoyable round on a windy day. To be honest, I had not really considered playing here prior to our trip because I did not want to pay the normal advertised rates. Fortunately I got a great hot deal on Golfnow.com, which very much made it worth it. The condition of the course, from tee boxes to fairways, bunkers and greens, was outstanding. Several of the holes, especially par 4s, seemed very similar, however, and perhaps even a bit boring. Also, it would have been nice to have another set of tees between 6600 yards plus and less than 6100. I was sort of caught in the middle. Staff was very friendly and the resort property is quite impressive. All in all an enjoyable afternoon.
Immpecable

Everything is perfect.
Best course in Las Vegas
Fantastic track!
First time playing this course and I will be back! Although the course was busy the pace of play was 4 hours. Greens and fairways are perfect. You don't want to miss this course!
GREAT COURSE
Fantastic good layout good condition played at 1230 no slow play ùnder 4 hours for a 3 ball very good price
Awesome experience
Great place to play. Wish I had the time to play the others. Only negative was the wind, about 25-30 mph. Greens were fast but adjustable. Must play if in Vegas.
Great course
Fun course. Was very windy and that made the scoring more challenging. Would love to play here again.
Windy
It happen to be windy that day and yet all was good. Course was in great shape. This is a perfect place to play 3 rounds in the same day. It may be a little drive from vegas put you will be happy after your done playing. Only thing to truly make things better is to get rid of the tipping for everything, the tipping is getting out of hand. Tell your people to stop and even refuse tipping at your golf resort. Be a leader and let's stop the begging for tips.!!!!
Smooth Greens and Well Maintained Tract
Beautiful Sunday in Vegas spent on one of the better courses. The greens were smooth, no grain, and no way to tell that aeration took place 2 weeks ago. Pace of play was great as we played the first 6 holes before we ran into the group in front. In all, finished well within 4 hours. Very nice pro shop with lots of nice on sale merchandise. Rental clubs were Taylor Made (M2), top of the line. Got a good deal on Golfnow green fee, as the price goes up later in the high season. Still like the Wolf best, but Sun is right up there.
True Desert Golf!
Had never played golf in the desert but now I can say I truly have had a real desert golf experience! What amazed me the most about this track was the amazing lush condition the course was in surrounded by Rock, sand and tumbleweed in the middle of the desert. What equally amazed me was the wild life present. Rabbits, doves, road runners, chip monks, quail and yes Canada Geese!
Paiute Sun
Always reliable for good play. All 3 courses are top notch. Conditions perfect, and facilities are as good as any in Vegas Valley. Wish I lived closer.
Great facility
54 holes of Pete Dye designed course. Good layout and fantastic condition!
over rated
played both Sun and Snow on the same day (good weather, only moderate wind). We expected more given the current 4.7-4.8 ratings. These courses are good, but over priced for hot summer conditions (compare to palm Springs). The GPS systems in the carts are truly low end (a joke compared to what you find on most good courses) and not sufficient given several blind tee shots. We will not be going back.
