Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Windy
It happen to be windy that day and yet all was good. Course was in great shape. This is a perfect place to play 3 rounds in the same day. It may be a little drive from vegas put you will be happy after your done playing. Only thing to truly make things better is to get rid of the tipping for everything, the tipping is getting out of hand. Tell your people to stop and even refuse tipping at your golf resort. Be a leader and let's stop the begging for tips.!!!!
Smooth Greens and Well Maintained Tract
Beautiful Sunday in Vegas spent on one of the better courses. The greens were smooth, no grain, and no way to tell that aeration took place 2 weeks ago. Pace of play was great as we played the first 6 holes before we ran into the group in front. In all, finished well within 4 hours. Very nice pro shop with lots of nice on sale merchandise. Rental clubs were Taylor Made (M2), top of the line. Got a good deal on Golfnow green fee, as the price goes up later in the high season. Still like the Wolf best, but Sun is right up there.
True Desert Golf!
Had never played golf in the desert but now I can say I truly have had a real desert golf experience! What amazed me the most about this track was the amazing lush condition the course was in surrounded by Rock, sand and tumbleweed in the middle of the desert. What equally amazed me was the wild life present. Rabbits, doves, road runners, chip monks, quail and yes Canada Geese!
Paiute Sun
Always reliable for good play. All 3 courses are top notch. Conditions perfect, and facilities are as good as any in Vegas Valley. Wish I lived closer.
Great facility
54 holes of Pete Dye designed course. Good layout and fantastic condition!
over rated
played both Sun and Snow on the same day (good weather, only moderate wind). We expected more given the current 4.7-4.8 ratings. These courses are good, but over priced for hot summer conditions (compare to palm Springs). The GPS systems in the carts are truly low end (a joke compared to what you find on most good courses) and not sufficient given several blind tee shots. We will not be going back.
Great experience
The day was windy, but the experience at Sun Mountain/Paiute golf resort was GREAT! A nice layout, well manicured, moderate difficulty, but an overall enjoyable day (how can you be upset when golfing?)
Frntseat
Fairly easy but this time of the year it's very warm and windy but tolerable. If you like to play fast most of the time you can go as fast as you like .
This course great views
I think it's a great course loved it
Worth the drive
The course is a bit northwest of the strip but well worth the drive. the practice areas were amazing. the greens rolled very true. Great views and great staff.
Leave the City and Play Here
This is the 2nd of the 3 courses I have played at Paiute, and it is such a great place to play. It's about 20 minutes from where I live, and probably 30-40 from the strip, so it's not hard to get to. The courses (driving range, tee boxes, fairways, greens, hazards) are in great shape and the Sun Course definitely made for a great afternoon of golf. Get away from the craziness of the tourists and enjoy this place.
Fantastic Desert Course!
This course was well worth the drive out of central Las Vegas to play it. Course was in great shape. The clubhouse and staff were superb. This course has everything a golfer may want in a quality golf experience. I highly recommend and will return myself when back in Vegas.
Always a good play
Love this course. Always windy but always a fun course to play. I'll be baaaack!
Skip the strip
This complex is the surest thing in Vegas!
Whatever your golf skill level, if you play the appropriate tees you will have one of your the best days of golf. Period.
The only better Las Vegas courses are Snow and Wolf here at Paiute
I have played this course over the last 15 years at least a couple of times each year. I travel six hours to get here and play and I am never disappointed. The fairways are always in great shape, the rough is rough but always in good shape. The greens are fair and fast. Stay out of the desert it is not any fun, besides your score goes up.
I Love Paiute!
Just like the other two Paiute courses, this is a very good course. It is in very good condition, the layout is really solid, the views are nice, it is isolated, it has a good practice facility, and the staff was great. The only bad mark was that the greens had been recently punched.
Lush and hush
Great course. Beautiful conditions and the fact that it's out where no houses are and layout promotes not seeing other holes you feel like you have it to yourself.
Had a good time!
I like that there were no sub division around the course. Great mountain views at every hole. I was paired up with a member, Joe, and he couldn't have been more helpful with the layout and friendly. I will play this course again when I come back to Vegas.
Amazing
This is one of the most awesome courses to play. Stunning backdrop views of snow capped mountains and beautiful desert. Pristine fairways and Greens. Loved every minute of it.
