Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Golf in Vegas
Great option for a round of golf during your vegas trip. It's a few minutes further than some but has beautiful views to go along with great course conditions. One of three courses so lots of options for a day of 36.
Paiute Sun Course
This was well worth the cost and drive. Beautiful course full of wildlife and the scenary is stunning. Friendly staff, arrived alittle early had breakfast, hit some practice balls which were included and was able to get out ahead of schedule. I would like to try the mountain course on our next visit.
Beautiful couse to play
I had 4some reserved at 12:15. We had arrived about 30 minutes before and checked in. Starter allowed us to go to tee box whenever we are ready. The weather was gorgeous because it was a little cloudy making a little cooler than usual. The fairway greens are very good and the putting greens were beautiful. We had very good pace with no waiting each hole. It took 4 hours to finish. It was very pleasant to play at Paiute Golf Course.
Great Course - don't miss any of the Paiute courses
This course and the two others are all excellent. Fairways are fairly wide but have various mounds and bunkers. All three courses are in excellent condition. Fairways are lush & greens are well groomed. Courses can be expensive but Golfnow makes them reasonable if you are willing to play a little later. Wolf is probably the best of the three courses. Setting is also superb - no houses just beautiful background. Range and putting & chipping greens excellent - included. The rough is a desert - bring a "rock" club.
Great golf course
From the time we got there till we left this place was top notch!! Course was in immaculate shape, staff was friendly and helpful and the facility's at Paiute are first class. The scenery around the course is some of tbe best in Las Vegas. Worth the drive and the money
great desert golf experience
This course was in the best condition of the 3 we played on our trip. The greens were in excellent shape. The layout was challenging. I am using one of our trip photos as my computer desktop image.
Play in the morning
The Sun Course at Paiute is a beautiful desert course, but you want to pay the extra to get a morning tee time. I played on June 16 with a 12:00 tee time and by the end of the round the temperature was 107. The wind picked up around 12;00 as well and was blowing 25 -40 mph, We arrived at the course early 10;30, and even though no one was on the first 3 holes, we were told we had an afternoon tee time and that is when we have to tee off. If you want to enjoy the course tee off before 8;00.
One of the best course
I have played many courses in my time and I would have to rate this course up there at the top....great course overall and a very professional staff...
Great Experience!!
Everything about this course is amazing. The presentation of the course, the cleanliness of the clubhouse, the course condition and friendliness of the staff was as if I were playing at a private course. I played all three courses in the same week just because of everything I mentioned above. Well done.
Great all around course!!!
Breath taking views !!! Perfect condition. Played from 6700 yards, has large landing area from those tees!!! Definitely Would play again.
Fantastic Course
This is one of three amazing courses at this resort. I played the Sun Mountain Course by myself. I was done in three hours. The course was in excellent condition, but the greens were a little slow for such a great course. It is quite a distance from town, but well worth the drive.
Dramatic views
Course was well maintained and not at all crowded. Only complaint was that the GPS was too small (cell phone size) and distances to obstacles was difficult to read.
Doesn't get better than this!!!
Have played all courses at Paiute many times, and they keep amazing us with the course conditions. It is in pristine condition. Two of us played behind a threesome and there was a foursome in front of them and we STILL played Sun course (18 holes) in 3 1/2 hours. Combined with the awesome price we got on Golf Now, it was a picture perfect golf day. Many thanks all around
Beautiful Remote Resort with 3-18 hole golf courses
Course was in great shape. Played in the afternoon (1:45) and the pace of play was perfect. Overcast day for Vegas weather and the winds were blowing with 25-30 mph gusts at times. The winds increased the difficulty on what I would consider a moderately challenging golf course.
Nice course
Course is In great shape. just be ready for wind and some long par 3's that will test your game. I would recommend this place to anyone. It is in the middle of the desert but amazing views.
Windy!
First time out here. Found a great deal on GolfNow but would not pay full price. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. There was a significant backup on the first tee, but things cleared up on the back nine. It's tough to gauge the difficulty given the sustained 40 mph wind, but each hole was different and some were quite beautiful. Saw bunnies and chipmunks along the way. Tore up my legs searching for balls in the desert. The greens had recently been sanded and punched which left them bumpy and inconsistent. Had a drink after the round. The bartender was friendly but closed up shop at around 5:30. Seemed odd. A word of caution: It's $100 each way from the strip. No shuttle service was offered.
Great course
Was a wonderful course 40 minutes outside of Vegas. On the Paiute Indian Reservation. Great views.
I played the Sun course which is the easier of the three. Still had some difficult holds and was fun.
The fairways were immaculate.
Only bad thing was they had just punched the greens a week ago, but where nice enough to give me a small discount.
great course
Great course with many challenges.
Great staff very friendly and helpful.
Well worth the short drive from the strip
AWESOME
IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED PAIUTE, I ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY THERE AND FINALLY I MADE IT. IT WAS VERY WINDY, EVEN SO IT WAS NOT THAT DIFFICULT, PLAYED FROM THE VERY BACK, GREENS WERE EXCELLENT AND THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION, IT WAS GREAT TO GET AWAY FROM THE CITY (LAS VEGAS). I LOVE TO PLAY COURSES THAT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. TOTALLY WORTH IT. WILL DO IT AGAIN SOON.
Gem in the desert
Played the Sun Mountain course for our first time and all I can say is WOW!! This facility offers something for every type golfer. Fairways are immaculate as were the greens. Greens were fast but fair and rolled true. Pace of play was excellent, we never felt rushed or held up by anyone. Caught myself more than once just staring at the views from the tees and greens. If you are looking for a great trip this is your place.
