Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

great course
Great course with many challenges.
Great staff very friendly and helpful.
Well worth the short drive from the strip
AWESOME
IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I PLAYED PAIUTE, I ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY THERE AND FINALLY I MADE IT. IT WAS VERY WINDY, EVEN SO IT WAS NOT THAT DIFFICULT, PLAYED FROM THE VERY BACK, GREENS WERE EXCELLENT AND THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION, IT WAS GREAT TO GET AWAY FROM THE CITY (LAS VEGAS). I LOVE TO PLAY COURSES THAT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. TOTALLY WORTH IT. WILL DO IT AGAIN SOON.
Gem in the desert
Played the Sun Mountain course for our first time and all I can say is WOW!! This facility offers something for every type golfer. Fairways are immaculate as were the greens. Greens were fast but fair and rolled true. Pace of play was excellent, we never felt rushed or held up by anyone. Caught myself more than once just staring at the views from the tees and greens. If you are looking for a great trip this is your place.
Amazing vista
Found the course online and the website looked great. Booked with golfnow.com and was happy with the course. It is a good challenge from the Red tees. Made a birdie even with the 44 mph winds. Staff very friendly and pace of play was great
Great challenge for women.
I enjoyed the game even though I may have been the only woman on the course. It is challenging but fair and the GPS is easy to use. It was an awesome day.
really nice course
Like all the courses at Paiute this will test your accuracy off the tee and ability to putt. Very typical Pete Dye design. Greens and fairways were immaculate, staff was super friendly. Got a great deal on Golfnow so it was a bargain for the money. Would definitely play it again.
Great Value
Got this tee time late on Saturday after for Sunday afternoon. Went there as a twosome. Got connected with a member on the first tee. Great views, challenging holes and awesome greens! Would make the drive out their from the Strip in a heartbeat again. We played as 3, took four hours and 20 minutes. Group in front not as fast on the back nine. Great Clubhouse, nice views of the mountain and very nice bar for the 19th hole.
Great course
I was in Vegas on vacation to just play golf. I played a few course around the city. They were nice but then found a great deal for 52 on golf now for Paiute. This place is amazing!! Mountains on every side of you. The pace was only slow because I was by myself behind a group of three. Didn't bother me. I just sat back and enjoyed the view.
Just a great course
Just a great course !!!!
Great layout and just fun to play !!!
Had great time.
Pace of play and course condition were excellent!!!
A desert course
course is long and windy Long par fours that wind conditions make longer
Best course in vegas
The 3 X 18 hole courses are always in the best condition, and I look forward to playing there again. The food and the staff are also very polite and helpful .
Always Awesome
Got to play first out as a twosome, conditions were great and got done EARLY- never had a bad round at any of the Paiute courses
WIndy!
Great course, greens are true but deceptive. Very windy that day, makes a 128 slope seems like 148!
Very well-maintained fairways and greens
Will definitely come back to play the other courses in this resort!
The course and the scenery super!
Our first time there. The indoor staff, starter and rangers were very friendly. The course played at a good pace 3:45!
If the opportunity presents itself, we'd go back in a heart beat.
Sun and Wind on the Sun Course
The weather was pretty cooperative this day, slight breeze and mostly sunny. The course played hard and fast as did the greens. It really helped to be playing with a friend who had been on the course previously as the landing areas are not obvious from the tee box. I recommend a yardage book the first time you play, even the GPS didn't tell all.
The greens are what make this course tougher to play, you think the break is too the valley when in fact it's towards downtown Las Vegas.
Staff was friendly, helpful, and very professional. Facilities are very nice, pro shop is well stocked with a wide variety to clothes and accessories.
Fun course to play, you will enjoy this course if the weather is good.
This course was in great condition.
I would like to play again. A very challenging course. The pace of play was good.
Great Course
Fantastic condition for a course that sees it's fair share of weather conditions. It's challenging, especially if you can't keep the driver straight - getting into the scrabble/rough will be a ball lost or at least one penalty stroke trying to regain the fairway.
Great course design and layout.
This is an extremely fare and challenging course. Greens were very true, no tricks breaks less than one would think. Greens hold shot and long approach shots.
