Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

A great round of golf
My wife and I were in Las Vegas for a week and I wanted to play a round. I asked a couple of "locals" where a good place to play would be. Without hesitation they both said Paiute. Even though I had to pay the "out of town "rate, it was a good recommendation. The course was in very good condition and the greens putted true. I was paired with three "locals" who guided me on each hole. I will come back next time we are back in LV.
No mulligan in the Mojave
Paiute is a challenging lay out and a very well maintained course, which is emphasized by the stark contrast with the harshness of the surrounding Mojave Desert. If you are in LasVegas, it's worth the drive just north of the city. Fair value for the quality of the product.
Great Experience
Course was excellent. Great views with excellent course conditions. Staff was very friendly and could not have been a better day. A must for any Vegas golf trip.
I Finally play all 3.... Swag!!!!
I love all 3 courses...my favorite is Snow..Sun...then Wolfe.....Each time I've play has been for someone's Birthday. ...Awesome Staff & Courses
Worth the Drive!
This is an absolutely outstanding set of golf courses and an amazing facility! The views of the desert backdrop are an unbelievable contrast to the deep green manicured fairways. The Sun course was challenging but very fair and in excellent condition.
Very good condition considering this time year!
The course was in very good condition, considering, most courses are over seating at this time, The fairways were in great shape, the greens were a little choppy they just had punched them maybe a week or so ago, it is a little pricier than I normally pay, if you have an extra $50 laying around, it's well worth your money to spend for four hours of entertainment. LOL!!! Oh and I almost forgot, for those of us who live on the southeast side of Las Vegas, it is quite the drive, enjoy!!!
Value galore
We were puzzled as to why the Paiute couses fairways and greens were so lush compared to other Vegas courses. We had our "ahhh haaa" moment when we learned that this Indian reservation has it's own water aquaifer
,which allows them to use unlimited water. These are by far the best three courses to play in vegas. Best value, best condition. Beautiful layout!
Fun course with several challenges
Course would have been excellent except that greens recently punched which resulted in substandard putting conditions.
Great complex with three excellent courses
I was able to play all three courses while in Vegas. Well worth the drive from the strip. Impeccable conditions, beautiful desert courses. Fair but challenging test of golf. Wind is a factor.
One of the best golf complexes I have had the pleasure of playing. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Golfnow.com deal was awesome value .
this course is always good
I always love Pete dyes golf course. It's been pleasure see the management keep up with such wonderful courses.i will play with my friends there again.
Course was nice but the GREENS were hard and Fast
course was nice, only concern was the greens were very hard and nothing would sit. Repaired no ball marks so everything rolls off. Other then that was a great course.
A Day at Wolf
Great course at a great price. Bring lots of balls to try and hit the island green on 15.
Hidden Gem of Las Vegas
Get off the strip and play this course along with Snow and Wolf. In August he fairways and greens are emaculate wih lush green grass. Outstanding practice faciliy, so get there early and take advantage of the amenities. Wonderful staff that go out of thier way to make the experience awesome. Well worth the drive, since I do two rounds, you get a great deal in the afternnon.
Another Awesome Trip
This is my 3rd trip to Paiute and I was not disappointed. The facilities and course are phenomenal.
I would consider a membership here over any other golf course that I have played in Las Vegas.
The entire facility is well groomed and maintained with courteous supporting staff. I enjoyed the practice area and the course itself. The pro shop is well stocked with quality merchandise.
Couldn't Be Happier
Played Paiute Sun Course on a hot June day. Very fair layout with a mix of easy, hard and average holes. Course was in great shape. Greens rolled very true and weren't too fast. Fairways were very smooth. Practice range was in good condition with plenty of range balls. Carts had a small GPS unit that was helpful but was not the larger interactive displays you see at most courses. That is really my only knock against the course.
Really the only thing you need to watch out for is the ridiculous 25 mph speed limit on the road leading to the golf course from the highway. It is through the desert and there is literally nothin around and the Paiute Tribal Police patrol it non stop.
I highly recommend it.
Great Course. Layout. Very windy.
Great Layout too much wind for my taste. High Gusting winds all the time.
Awesome
Great golf course, friendly staff, and a great deal. We really enjoyed our time out on the course. They paced the golf game perfectly. We never felt hurried or pressured (I am a beginner and my fiancé has been golfing for the most part of his life). Great customer service. Highly recommend this course.
Love the Pauite
Great course. Great facilities all at a great price.
